    Thank you so much for this amazing picture of Lore! It seems whenever I feel like slowing down someone comes and reignites my drive to keep pushing forward! While I haven’t posted progress in a long time it is because I am hard at work on getting out a demo that can be enjoyed by many types of players this time around. Still lots to do in order to get there.

Here’s @thirdkeyofsun‘s character, Lore, from MoGiSho (thanks for the follow!). It’s been really fun to see how the game’s evolved over time, so I thought I’d do this. I’ll probably end up doing more fan art soon, too - it was fun and a good learning experience. (My classes just started up again though, so updates will be sparse, but that’s par for the course, isn’t it?)

     Slowly putting everything back together in a somewhat working state with the help of my default test enemy! New 16:9 resolution but I can look into preserving the original 4:3 reso and sprites for anyone who really wants it as an option. At this new resolution I lose ¼th of the height I was originally working with, forcing me to redraw sprites smaller but I am doing my best to preserve as much detail as possible in the process.
     Currently none of the redraws are finished and lack most of their animations but my priority right now is getting everything to play nicely with the new code and resolution. (debug information on some parts of the player sprites are temporary!)

     Overall I am still messing with HUD layouts, colors, fonts and general feeling because at 16:9 squeezing the active screen together is even more necessary than before. If it is kept too wide in it’s shorter state you need large, sweeping movements to get from one side to the other.
     This means either you have to increase the player speed dramatically from it’s original design or you accept the game will have enemies you will not be able to safely engage if you happen to be on the ‘wrong’ side of the screen. It breaks the game feel and hinders proper design so I have to sacrifice the sides beyond their original 4:3 framing.

     HUD layout above is subject to change after I mess around with it more so if anyone has any strong feelings or opinions on it please drop a comment. Story mode is also being worked on and I hope to have news to share on that front in the future as well! Thank you for checking out this very short update and sorry for taking so long!

    The reworking of Moth Girl Shooter’s back systems is nearing completion which means I will be able to work on the presentation of the game again soon. I am having to make a lot of really hard decisions with MoGiSho but it is necessary if I want to deliver something others can find some enjoyment in.

    In the meantime I joined my first jam as a side distraction and I can honestly say I have been having fun. There is a very real chance I won’t finish enough to submit to the jam but I am pretty alright with that. Most likely will finish a few stages and throw it up on itch regardless.

    The ship has a flight mode which you see it start in and then has a (Moth Girl Mecha) mode which allows it to fire in both directions. Silly fun like this really does a lot to help you relax sometimes and I have needed it during this re-core of my main project. Expect to see a few more posts about this small game as the jam’s timer runs towards completion.

One More Status Update-

     I can’t say much about the trip I took other than I got to see a lot of really neat games. It made me realize how lacking my own project was, both in content and presentation, so I made a list of things I would like to do once I got home. When I finally returned, however, I realized after pouring over my code base that most of the things I wanted to do would either be extremely hard or almost impossible with the way things were. If I waited until the game was done before starting to rebuild the core the work would amount to basically building a whole new game.

     Even now looking around me here at my fellow devs I see amazing projects doing their best to be something their creators can be proud of. I want to do my best as well, so it is here that I have decided to start the core rebuild. With how massive the changes to the underlying backbone will be there is no better time than now to also make drastic changes to other things (for example the resolution).

     Progress will be slow but as I finish things like new settings and menus, resolution changes, select screens, etc. I will post about them. In between that I will make small posts about tiny projects and such so you know I am alive. The tiny projects only get a few hours of work per week so they won’t be impressive but it should be fun to see them grow! Thank you for taking the time to read this update and I hope to have something to post within the next week.

     Just returned from a 5 day trip that had me away from my dev station. I will resume making progress after I get some much needed sleep. Sorry for the delay in the project and thank you for your patience!
